Sunday, August 22, 2010

Listen live on KRCB Radio FM 91 or streaming worldwide on the Internet at www.krcb.org

On the next edition of Outbeat Youth, we will introduce you to a new Sonoma County Peer Outreach Coalition.  The Sonoma County Peer Outreach Coalition was founded in 2010.  Working within Community Action Partnership of Sonoma County, the Peer Outreach Coalition is committed to enhancing mental health and wellness as well as reducing stigma surrounding mental illness.  We’ll be joined by Shana Friedman and several of the peer leaders to talk about the exciting work this new organization is doing here for LGBT youth in Sonoma County.  We’ll also have a new youth profile and movie review for the month.

National Coming Out Day Special:

October 11 is National Coming Out Day and Outbeat Radio wants to offer you a chance to come out on the radio.  If you have a coming out message for anyone that you would like to deliver on the radio or share with Outbeat Radio listeners, You can pre-record your message or broadcast it live on a special show we will air on Monday, October 11th.  Maybe you want to come out for the first time and tell the entire world or maybe you have a special message for a group of friends, family, or co-workers.  We want to help you share your truth and to be proud of who you are.

My name is Greg Miraglia and I am the host and producer of Outbeat Youth, a regular segment on the Outbeat Now! radio program on KRCB Radio of Santa Rosa, California. Outbeat Youth is for and about queer youth in the North Bay Area of California.

So often, queer youth are left in the shadows of their straight peers and never get the recognition they deserve. The fact is that there are may young people who identify as gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, and transgender who are doing some amazing things at their schools and communities. Our goal is to share the stories of these young people with the greater community. We are also here to support the many incredible organizations that support queer youth including Positive Images, Spectrum, and the many gay straight alliances that exist in our high schools and colleges. Tune in to find out what queer youth are up to in our community.
